Web Blogs – Opportunity or Hype?

The recent emergence of Weblogs into the business world as a medium of communication has everyone talking. A quarter of all Internet users read blogs, which means that at least 32 million American adults are blog readers. A report “State of Blogging ” by Pew Internet & American Life Project in January of this year state that at least 9 percent of the American population has created one.

Let's look at more stats. Bloggers are usually male and as high as 11 percent of men have created at least one blog, compared to only 8 percent of women. 19 percent of Americans between the ages of 18 and 29 are blog creators. As you can imagine readership is also higher among young adults 18 to 29, with 36 percent of that group reading blogs.

When comparing Blogging to other forms of media the numbers really stack up according to Pew, with blog readership as much as 40 percent of the talk radio audience, and 20 percent of the newspaper-reading population.

Now you are probable thinking - what does this mean to me. Well, blogging is an inexpensive, low-maintenance technology to market your company –without requiring any knowledge of HTML. By creating a blog, you can create a buzz about your brand in ways that high cost advertising cannot!
