Promoting your web site is rather simple yet close to 90 percent of companies don't understand the value of directly getting consumers to what you are promoting. Fortune 500 companies who should know better also make up the 90 percent.
You must create relevance. Isn't that what branding is all about? The more direct your Web site, the more relevant the information in sub-URLs, and the more persuasive the reasons for visiting, the more effective the site will be in attracting, maintaining, and working for visitors.
Here are the rules:
- Have a reason to when promoting a URL. Tell consumers why they should visit your site. How will it affect their lives? Will it enable them to purchase products more inexpensively?
- Create sub-URLs to avoid losing potential customers that come to your site. You are given only five to ten seconds to win them over before they click to another site. Make sure their visit is clear and their progress is rapid.
- Give them what they expect! If you promise a discount, make that discount visible from the very first page. Don't make finding the discount a major production as you try to up-selling other stuff. Just be honest and offer assistance along the way.
