Quick Tips
Often times when we go green, we save green.
- Use low-flow faucets, showerheads, and toilets in your bathroom
- Recycle newspapers and items you would normally throw away
- Keep your thermostat at 78 during the summer and 68 during the winter
- Clean or replace air filters at least once a month. Dirty air filters make your heating and cooling system work harder than necessary
- Put unit in shade if possible. If possible locate condensers (outside air conditioning units) under shade trees or other shade. This will allow the unit to work more efficiently and use less energy.
- Purchase newer appliances. New energy efficient systems could pay for itself in energy savings in a very short time
- Use compact fluorescent light bulbs – they reduce emissions by about 65 percent as compared to a regular light bulb.
- Caulk around windows and weather stripping around doors
- Buy products that use recyclable materials whenever possible
- Avoid buying items with excessive packaging
- Bring your own cup to work for coffee
- Turn off lights when you leave the room and unplug electronics when not in use
- Go paperless; pay your bills online
- Car pool
- Choose eco-friendly products
- Bring your own bags to the grocery store
- Don’t run the water while brushing your tooth and take shorter showers
- Eliminate junk mail at work. For no fee, the EcoLogical Mail Coalition will eliminate the junk that former employees receive at work
- Walk or ride your bike when you can
